The Psychological Tactics used by Casinos

Abstract

Casinos are complex establishments that apply a multitude of psychological tactics and business concepts that have been successfully employed across other contexts. This industry commentary article describes the methods casinos use to attract and retain customers, encourage them to gamble, and ensure profits for the casinos. A review of the literature reveals potential benefits and risks to individuals and communities. Casinos provide entertainments, job opportunities, and increased tourism to communities. While  those who are knowledgeable about the potential pitfalls can enjoy the entertainment value of casinos, those who lack that knowledge or have addictive personalities risk becoming problem gamblers.
